The 93rd Annual Farm Agents Golf Outing & Annual Meeting is the fun summer event for those in the Illinois crop, farm & ag industry to come together for networking, education, golf, and an industry specific tradeshow. This event draws over 100 agents from throughout Illinois, to have fun with peers, network, obtain three hours of IL CE credit, and participate in the FAC Annual Meeting.

The Golf Outing will be held at Prairie Vista Golf Course, 502 W. Hamilton Rd., Bloomington, IL. The golf outing is limited to agents/companies registered for the Annual Meeting. Golf registration is in addition to the Annual Meeting registration. Golf format will be a scramble, with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Forms must be received by June 2 so we may plan for your group. If you do not have a foursome, you will be assigned one. Please contact the IIA of IL if you have any questions.

This year’s education topic will be all about Agency Perpetuation and what you should be considering no matter where you are in the process. Instructor, Bobby Shomo, will walk us through the state of the current market, discuss strategy and what to consider whether your exit is in the next few years or 20 years down the road, and the valuation prospective. For our non-agency owners this is a great session to lay the foundation as you progress through leadership and eventually move into an agency owner role. The session is worth three hours of IL CE (Iowa CE pending).

The agency has five locations and 25 employees with their main office in Marshalltown, Iowa. They continue to pursue growth through both acquisition and organic growth and are scheduled to close their next agency purchase on October 30th, 2020. Bobby is involved in the agency on a full-time basis as a managing partner, a producer specializing in schools and municipalities and the Human Resources manager. Prior to purchasing his first agency, Bobby spent six years on the company side primarily in casualty claims with rotations in underwriting and loss control. His MBA was earned with concentrations in Finance and Accounting and he received his CIC designation in 2012.

Bobby has a passion for education as both a teacher and a student. His background brings a perspective from both the company and agency sides. Additionally, Shomo-Madsen Insurance has had to deal with three catastrophic weather-related events in 25 months. An EF-3 tornado in July of 2018 that hit main street; a major hail storm in May of 2019 and a Derecho (106 mph straight-line winds) in August of 2020. Bobby is currently working toward his CRM designation.
